Picking It Up Again

Well, sort of anyway.

It has been a while since I posted anything (mainly because I was busy for a while, and then, well I'll explain a bit further on), so I thought it was about time that I did, even though I don't really have anything to show besides some works-in-progress.

You see, for some strange reason (or not strange really, as it's what I always do), when I got a bit more free time I decided to do a whole bunch of different illustrations to make up for lost time, deciding as it were to work on them all at the same time, that is sketching them all at one time, then inking them all at one time. The end result is that I haven't finished any of them after a few weeks of working on them, which is why I haven't posted anything, because I'm not that fond of uploading half finished works for no reason (the only reason in my eyes is to go through your process, explaining how you did things, which I never really do). But seeing that it has been a few months, I though I ought to do so anyway.

This isn't all of them, by any means, but I thought I'd show just a few, so that you don't think that I have just been lounging around for months (I have, but still, it isn't a good image to project)

Under the Trees, Beneath the Mask

The finished product of an illustration I started weeks ago (that, my ever negligible readers, is what can be described as true dedication to a craft). While I don't think it's completely terrible, I am starting to pinpoint exactly what I need to improve on - that is, actual proper watercolour painting, facial expression, perspective (though I'm honestly not that concerned about this one. If I wanted proper perspective I would take a photo), textures, etc (I could literally go on for another paragraph or two).

Something to look forward to in the future I suppose.

(Also as a note this is the second time writing all this - somehow I lost my original post so this one is just slightly less positive. I'm sure you will understand and forgive me)

Beneath the trees o' so fair, the silence o' so soft
A grasping hand came begging, 'Please maiden lend your palm'
Blackened eyes and golden crown, with courage she did give
A gift to this ghost, this wraith, a mask of loving faith.

The colour red. It symbolizes many different things; aggression and anger, love and romance, but at the heart of it all, I believe it represents blood. Whether it be the red of one's face as your emotions rise, or the red as a result fierce battle, much of the meanings associated with the colour red come down to the idea of blood. It is something that ties most of the worlds living creatures together and it keeps all alive. The colour red, the colour of blood.

(Note: I am not actually trying to be morbid or anything - it's just the first thing that I thought of when I heard the word 'red'.)
